A groom-to-be was tragically killed in a wrong-way crash in Manhattan early Saturday, just one day before his wedding, leaving his devastated bride-to-be in mourning on what should have been the happiest day of her life.
Shauntea Weaver, 40, shared her heartbreak on Sunday, expressing the surreal nature of the tragedy. “I’m supposed to be in my wedding dress right now — not in mourning,” she said, struggling to comprehend the loss of her fiancé, Kirk Walker, 38, who was killed along with his cousin, Rob McLaurin, 40, when a wrong-way driver struck their Dodge Challenger head-on on the Henry Hudson Parkway.
The crash occurred around 2:20 a.m. near West 154th Street in Harlem, leaving the car crumpled into a twisted wreck. Walker and McLaurin had been out celebrating Walker’s bachelor party ahead of the planned nuptials.
The couple was set to wed in a large ceremony at Royal Manor in Garfield, New Jersey, which was cancelled after the fatal accident. A representative from the venue confirmed the cancellation due to the tragedy.
In the aftermath, a woman on social media identified Walker as a beloved figure in his community, sharing that he was supposed to get married the next day. McLaurin, who had travelled from North Carolina for the wedding, also lost his life in the collision.
The driver of the pickup truck that caused the crash fled the scene and remains at large, though the truck’s passenger was apprehended nearby and taken to a local hospital.
