Paul Pogba, the former Manchester United midfielder, is preparing to contest his four-year doping ban at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) next week, according to recent reports.

The 31-year-old, who became the world’s most expensive footballer when he rejoined Manchester United for £89 million in 2016, received the ban after testing positive for elevated testosterone levels following Juventus’ 3-0 win against Udinese last August.

Italy’s anti-doping agency, NADO, confirmed the presence of the substance in Pogba’s system after a second sample was tested in October, leading to his suspension.

Pogba has consistently denied wrongdoing, expressing his deep disappointment and shock at the verdict.

The appeal comes shortly after world number one tennis player Jannik Sinner successfully avoided a ban despite failing two anti-doping tests in March.

Sinner’s suspension was overturned after he argued that the banned anabolic steroid clostebol was introduced into his system through contamination by his physiotherapist.

Pogba’s legal team reportedly views this case as a significant precedent that could influence the outcome of his appeal.

Following the announcement of his suspension earlier this year, Pogba issued a statement expressing his dismay, insisting that he had never knowingly taken any performance-enhancing substances.

He emphasized his commitment to fair play and stated that he would never engage in actions that would disrespect his fellow athletes or the teams he has represented.

As Pogba prepares for the CAS hearing, the outcome will be crucial in determining whether he can clear his name and return to professional football.
