Manslaughter Probe Initiated Following Sinking of Bayesian Superyacht
Investigators are reportedly considering potential criminal charges of shipwreck and manslaughter in connection with the sinking of the Bayesian superyacht off the coast of Sicily on Monday.
The tragedy has already claimed five lives, including British tech magnate Mike Lynch.
Prosecutors in Termini Imerese, located near the site of the incident, are set to hold a press conference tomorrow morning. They are expected to discuss allegations of “shipwreck and multiple culpable homicide”—equivalent to manslaughter in the UK—against unidentified individuals, according to local media reports.
The search efforts resumed today for Hannah Lynch, the teenage daughter of Mike Lynch, who remains the only passenger unaccounted for. Yesterday, an Italian interior ministry official suggested that she might not be inside the yacht.
The incident has puzzled experts, as the vessel was reportedly designed to be “virtually unsinkable” and should have withstood the storm that struck.
