Graffiti Threat on Irish Prime Minister Amid Ireland’s Politics
Dublin City Council has been asked to urgently remove graffiti that contains a death threat against the Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar.
The graffiti, which appeared on a wall opposite the Blackhorse Luas Stop near Drimnagh, misspells Mr Varadkar’s surname and reads: ‘Kill Leo Veradkar, He sold out the Irish.’ Additionally, the graffiti brands the Taoiseach an ‘EU puppet’.
Despite being warned of a risk to his safety from far-right extremists before Christmas, Mr Varadkar said he would not change his lifestyle. Local Sinn Féin councillor Daithí Doolan condemned the graffiti as “cheap, nasty and vindictive” and called for immediate removal. He also added that the graffiti does not represent the good people of Drimnagh and Inchicore.
While Mr Doolan shares no political affiliation with Leo Varadkar or the current government, he believes that graffiti offers no solution and that people should become active in their community and work together to bring about the change they want.
