Shanon Biles, the biological mother of seven-time Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles, remains hopeful for a reconciliation with her daughter. However, she says she is waiting for Simone to initiate contact.
In an interview with the Daily Mail, 52 Shanon expressed her desire to make amends with Simone, 27, and her younger sister, Adria.
Shanon had relinquished custody of the girls to their grandparents, Ron and Nellie Biles, due to struggles with drug and alcohol addiction.
“I would like to make amends with Simone personally — I’m just waiting for her and Adria,” Shanon said. “I speak to Adria more than I speak to Simone. I would ask her to forgive me. Can we move forward? Don’t judge me on my past. Let’s move forward.”
Shanon has been following Simone’s career from her home in Columbus, Ohio, and expressed pride in her daughter’s achievements, which include winning three gold medals and a silver at the recent Summer Olympics.
Despite her pride, Shanon and Simone do not currently communicate directly.
“I hear about Simone through my dad,” Shanon explained. “If I need to know anything, I call my dad. He keeps me posted.”
Ron and Nellie Biles provided Simone and Adria with a stable home in Houston, Texas, after Shanon struggled to provide for them.
While Simone has previously clarified that Ron and Nellie are her parents, Shanon hopes to explain her side of the story eventually.
Now clean and sober, Shanon works as a cashier at Save A Lot. She regrets missing significant moments in Simone’s life, including her recent wedding.
Despite having Simone’s direct contact number, Shanon said she would not reach out and preferred to wait for Simone to make the first move. She remains patient and hopeful for a future reunion.
“I want her to reach out to me,” Shanon said. “You can’t push anybody. It hasn’t happened yet, but I have patience. I’m waiting on her.”
