Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy claimed on Sunday that former President Barack Obama is covertly orchestrating Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign.

Speaking on 770 WABC’s “The Cats Roundtable,” McCarthy alleged that Obama’s former aides, including David Plouffe and other key figures, are now involved in Harris’ campaign.

McCarthy pointed out that prominent Obama advisers, such as Eric Holder, who assisted in vetting Harris’ vice-presidential selection, and Plouffe, who served as Obama’s 2008 campaign manager and later as a senior White House adviser, are playing significant roles.

Additionally, Harris has recruited Stephanie Cutter, who was deputy campaign manager for Obama’s 2012 re-election, and Jim Margolis, an Obama ad-maker, for her campaign team.

Jennifer Palmieri, another veteran Democratic adviser, has been hired as a senior adviser to Harris’ husband, Doug Emhoff. Palmieri previously served as director of communications for Obama and as communications director for Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign. Jennifer O’Malley Dillon, Harris’ campaign chairwoman, also worked on Obama and Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign.

Despite these claims, a former top adviser to Obama dismissed the notion that the ex-president was actively directing Harris’ campaign. They stated it is common for experienced Democratic strategists to support successive candidates, adding that Obama would step in only if Harris requested his assistance.

During the interview, McCarthy criticized Harris as a “San Francisco liberal” and expressed dissatisfaction with her choice of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate, describing the ticket as the most liberal in American political history. He suggested that the omission of Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, who is Jewish, was a political misstep, particularly given the importance of Pennsylvania and Georgia in the upcoming election.

McCarthy also criticized Harris’ role in passing President Biden’s pandemic-related stimulus bills, which he claimed contributed to inflation and increased financial strain on American families. He argued that Harris’ deciding vote in the Senate led to economic hardships for many.
