Wayne Rooney has been sacked as the manager of Birmingham City Football Club after less than three months in charge.
He was appointed in October 2023, but his tenure was short-lived due to poor results. Rooney managed to win only two of the 15 games he oversaw, leaving the club at 20th position in the Championship table.
The decision to remove him was taken after the supporters called for his removal following the team’s 3-0 defeat at Leeds on New Year’s Day.

Rooney, who previously managed Derby County and DC United, has said that he does not feel he was given enough time to implement the changes he wanted to make. He also added that it would take him some time to get over the decision. The club released a statement saying that despite their best efforts, the results did not meet the expectations, and a change in management was in the best interests of the football club.

The former Manchester United and England striker has expressed his disappointment and said that he plans to take a break from the game. He tweeted a statement saying that football is a results business, and he recognizes that the results have not been at the level he wanted them to be.
Rooney was controversially appointed as the manager of Birmingham City FC, replacing the popular former boss John Eustace. The club’s new ownership group decided to bring in Rooney at the expense of Eustace, who had lifted the Blues away from relegation trouble during his 15-month spell.
The search for a new manager has already begun, and the club’s chief executive, Garry Cook, has promised to do what is necessary to bring success to St Andrew’s. In the meantime, professional development coach Steve Spooner will take responsibility for men’s first-team matters on an interim basis.
Rooney’s sacking has come as a shock to the football world, and it remains to be seen what the future holds for him. However, it is clear that Birmingham City FC will be looking for a new manager who can turn their fortunes around and lead them to success in the Championship.
