An armed woman from Texas has been arrested after allegedly threatening former President Donald Trump in Washington, DC, authorities said.
Christina Montoya, 41, was apprehended last Friday in northeastern DC following a tip-off from the Secret Service, prompting a local police investigation, according to a report from the Metropolitan Police Department of DC.
“Through the detectives’ investigation, 41-year-old Christina Montoya of San Antonio, Texas, was arrested and charged with carrying a pistol without a license, possession of an unregistered firearm, and threats against a former president,” MPD stated in a public announcement.
During the investigation, officers located Montoya’s Honda Accord and found her in a residential area of the nation’s capital. They discovered a Smith & Wesson M&P Shield pistol, a gun lock, and a magazine, according to the police report.
The Secret Service has faced intense scrutiny over security lapses that preceded the attempt on Trump’s life. Trump’s right ear was grazed by a bullet, one person was killed, and two others were wounded in the attack. Secret Service snipers later neutralized the assailant.
Reports indicate that the attacker had managed to position himself on the roof of a shed approximately 130 yards away from Trump. Whistleblowers have since come forward, criticizing the Secret Service for missed opportunities to enhance security.
Last month, the Secret Service’s former director, Kimberly Cheatle, resigned amid bipartisan backlash. Multiple investigations into the security debacle are ongoing, including inquiries from a bipartisan task force in Congress and the Department of Homeland Security’s inspector general.
Several congressional committees are also conducting additional investigative work regarding the incident.
