Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, reportedly resists efforts to move from his opulent Royal Lodge to the smaller Frogmore Cottage.
The 64-year-old has resided at the $38 million Royal Lodge on the Windsor Castle grounds since 2004, following a 75-year lease agreement.
Despite mounting pressure and scandal, including his association with the late Jeffrey Epstein and recent revelations in court documents, Prince Andrew remains in the Royal Lodge.
Royal expert Christopher Andersen indicated that King Charles, who is also managing personal challenges, is currently unwilling to force his brother’s relocation.
“If and when Andrew does move, it will likely be due to financial constraints related to maintaining the Royal Lodge,” Andersen told Fox News. “In the meantime, Frogmore Cottage will likely stay vacant.”
Frogmore Cottage, previously occupied by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, has been empty since the couple vacated the property in June 2023.
Despite its availability, Andrew has declined to move into the five-bedroom home, which is smaller than his current residence.
The annual sovereign Grant was revealed last week.
The Duke of York has reportedly been neglecting maintenance payments for the Royal Lodge, which costs upkeep approximately $503,000 annually. The property, formerly owned by the Queen Mother, is shared with Andrew’s ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson.
Buckingham Palace has been contacted for comment, but Andrew remains in the Royal Lodge while Frogmore Cottage continues to sit unused.
