Russia has launched a significant attack on Ukraine, firing a record number of hypersonic missiles simultaneously.
The capital city of Kyiv and other cities were hit in retaliation for Ukrainian strikes on Belgorod on New Year’s Eve. This is the latest in a series of missile attacks on Ukraine, with a total of 110 missiles of different types unleashed upon the country in today’s onslaught.

The incoming Russian missiles reportedly flew in a zig-zagging movement to try and confuse Kyiv’s air defences, and explosions and fires were reported in the capital.
There was damage to high-rise residential blocks, warehouses, a supermarket, a Tesla car dealership, and an electricity station. Phone coverage and power supply were also hit in the city, and it was initially unclear what military targets had been shot.
