The United States, United Kingdom, and Canada have issued travel warnings for Nigeria ahead of a planned #EndBadGovernance protest scheduled for August 1, 2024.

These advisories urge citizens to avoid areas where potential clashes between protesters and security forces might occur.

The #EndBadGovernance movement, aimed at criticizing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, is expected to trigger significant demonstrations. Public discontent over economic issues and perceived governance failures is fueling the protests.

In preparation, Nigerian authorities have held high-level meetings, including discussions with the presidency, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the National Security Adviser, and other senior officials.

The US Mission in Abuja has advised Americans to steer clear of rallies and large gatherings. Their advisory highlights potential disruptions like roadblocks and physical confrontations, with nationwide protests anticipated from July 29 to August 5, 2024.

The UK High Commission has warned British nationals to exercise caution in major cities such as Abuja and Lagos, where protests might erupt into violence with little warning. The advisory suggests avoiding crowded areas and seeking safety if faced with threatening situations.

Canada’s government also cautioned citizens about potential disruptions to traffic and public transportation. Their advisory emphasizes vigilance and adherence to local authorities’ instructions, noting that protests could turn violent unexpectedly.

These travel advisories reflect growing concerns over the safety and security risks associated with the upcoming protests in Nigeria.
