Barack and Michelle Obama have officially endorsed Kamala Harris in her presidential campaign.
The announcement was made Friday morning through a video call where the Obamas congratulated Harris, who is positioning herself as the likely Democratic nominee.
Barack Obama praised Harris, stating, “Michelle and I couldn’t be prouder to endorse you and do everything we can to get you through this election and into the Oval Office.” Michelle Obama added, “I am proud of you. This is going to be historic.”
Harris, who has had a long-standing relationship with the Obamas since before Barack Obama’s first election, expressed her gratitude and anticipation for the upcoming campaign period. She stated, “We’re gonna have some fun with this too, aren’t we?”
This endorsement follows President Joe Biden’s recent decision to end his reelection bid and support Harris as his successor. The Democratic National Committee plans to hold a virtual vote to confirm Harris and her running mate as the official Democratic ticket.
Harris has already garnered significant delegate support, with notable endorsements from key Democratic figures like Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, Hakeem Jeffries, Jim Clyburn, Bill Clinton, and Hillary Clinton.
Initially, Barack Obama had refrained from mentioning Harris directly after Biden’s announcement, opting instead for a broader statement on the nomination process.
