The U.S. Secret Service has advised former President and current Republican Presidential Nominee Donald Trump to avoid holding outdoor rallies following a recent assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania, according to sources familiar with the matter who spoke to ABC News.
Upcoming rallies are planned, but none are set to be held outdoors, as discussions about future event locations have excluded outdoor venues, the sources noted.
A spokesperson for Trump’s campaign has not yet responded to requests for comment.
The recommendation follows the resignation of U.S. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle on Tuesday. Cheatle faced criticism for the agency’s failure to prevent the recent assassination attempt on Trump.
The Washington Post initially reported the news. This story is developing, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
