Former White House physician and current Congressman Ronny Jackson provided an update on Republican Presidential nominee Donald Trump’s condition following a failed assassination attempt by Thomas Matthew Crooks.
According to Jackson, Trump is “doing well” and recovering after a bullet fired by Crooks came “less than a quarter of an inch from entering his head.”
In a statement issued on Saturday, Jackson detailed the severity of Trump’s injuries. He reported that Trump sustained a gunshot wound to the right ear from a high-powered rifle.
The bullet track caused a two cm-wide wound that extended to the cartilaginous surface of the ear, resulting in significant initial bleeding and notable swelling.
Jackson, who examined Trump the night of the shooting, acknowledged the swift medical response at Butler Memorial Hospital in Pennsylvania, which he credited with aiding Trump’s recovery.
Despite Jackson’s detailed account, former National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Dr. Anthony Fauci had previously characterized Trump’s injuries as “superficial,” suggesting the bullet only “grazed his ear.”
Jackson, a Texas Republican, expressed his concern and described how he met with Trump at his Bedminster, New Jersey, estate on the night of the shooting and has continued to monitor his condition daily.
He clarified that Trump’s injured ear is still bleeding intermittently, necessitating a dressing. However, he noted that no sutures were needed due to the nature of the wound.
The former physician’s update comes amid ongoing debate and scrutiny over the seriousness of Trump’s injuries and the adequacy of his medical treatment.
