Madonna’s 18-Year-Old Son Reveals He’s ‘Scavenging for Food’ After Leaving Her Mansion
Madonna’s 18-year-old son, David Banda, recently opened up about his new life in New York City, having moved out of his mother’s lavish home to live with his girlfriend, Maria Atuesta, 21, in The Bronx. David, one of Madonna’s six children, shared his experiences during a live Instagram session, expressing the challenges and joys of his newfound independence.
“I love it. I’m not on my own; I’ve got my girlfriend. But I love it,” David said. He described the humbling experience of adjusting to his new lifestyle: “It’s lovely to experience it being nine o’clock at night, me being hungry and realizing that I don’t have enough money to get food and scavenging. It’s fun to be young.”
David, an aspiring musician and model, offers guitar lessons for $200 per session to make ends meet, promoting his services to his nearly 52,000 Instagram followers.
In the same update, David revealed personal news about his famous mother, confirming that Madonna, 65, is not single. “Truth be told, she’s not single. She’s dating a guy . . . That’s her life. She’ll do what she wants to do,” he mentioned.
With an estimated net worth of $850 million, Madonna owns multiple luxurious properties, including a $32.5 million mansion in New York’s Upper East Side. This grand residence features 13 bedrooms, a drawing room, a lavish kitchen, and a 3,000-square-foot garden. Her property portfolio also includes Lisbon, London, and Beverly Hills homes.
Despite their physical distance, Madonna continues to express admiration and pride for David. She adopted him from Malawi in 2006 with her ex-husband Guy Ritchie.
In a 2019 interview with British Vogue, Madonna spoke about their close bond, praising David’s focus and determination, traits she believes he inherited from her. “He’s the one I have the most in common with. I feel like he gets me; he has more of my DNA than any of my children so far,” she said.
Madonna’s recent health scare, a near-fatal bacterial infection that led to an induced coma, highlighted the strong family ties. After postponing her Celebration Tour to recover, Madonna publicly thanked her children for their unwavering support during her recovery. “As a mother, you can get caught up in your children’s needs and the seemingly endless giving. But when the chips were down, my children showed up for me. I saw a side to them I had never seen before,” she wrote in a heartfelt Instagram post.
David’s transition to life in New York City marks a significant step in his journey toward independence, echoing the resilience and determination that Madonna admires.
