Dublin Hit-and-Run Claims Life of Pedestrian, Marks 105th Road Fatality of 2024

Dublin witnessed a tragic hit-and-run incident in the early hours of Wednesday morning, claiming the life of a pedestrian in his 40s on the coast road in Baldoyle.

The collision occurred shortly before 1 am, involving a vehicle that fled the scene without stopping. This fatality marks the 105th death on Irish roads in 2024.

Gardaí have referred their involvement in the incident involving a stolen car to the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission (GSOC).

However, this referral does not pertain to the specific circumstances of the fatal crash. The local coroner has been notified, and an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

To conduct a thorough investigation, Garda forensic collision investigators closed the road overnight to examine the scene. They are expected to reopen the road soon. Gardaí are urging anyone who witnessed the collision or has relevant camera footage, including dash-cam recordings, to come forward and assist in the investigation.

In a statement, a Garda spokesperson appealed for cooperation, stating, “Road users with camera footage or information regarding the incident are encouraged to contact Howth Garda Station at 01 666 4900, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.”
