Spanish police are searching for a British tourist who fled after a street fight left another UK holidaymaker unconscious in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
The 20-year-old victim was knocked out by a punch to the head during a brawl between two groups of British tourists near Mulligan’s Bar on Punta Ballena, Magaluf’s notorious party strip.
Paramedics had to sedate the young man when he reacted aggressively upon regaining consciousness, and he was subsequently taken to Son Espases Hospital with head wounds and potential internal bleeding. His current condition remains unknown.
The attacker, described by witnesses as a member of a different group of British tourists, escaped before local police and Civil Guard officers arrived at the scene around 5:30 a.m.
This incident occurred close to the spot where Irish father-of-four Michael Grant collapsed and died on Monday.
Detectives are investigating whether Grant, a 45-year-old physiotherapist from Waterford, was involved in a street fight before his sudden death. Initial examinations suggested his injuries might have been caused by a vehicle, but no evidence of a traffic incident has been found.
Authorities are now looking into a possible altercation with a street seller.
Grant reportedly separated from his group after the hotel pool for an afternoon for an afternoon. An autopsy revealed he had consumed cocaine and alcohol before his death. Investigators are conducting further tests to determine if his death was drug-related. No murder or homicide investigation has been launched at this stage.
