Jason Pusey, a former footballer with ties to Atletico Madrid’s academy and four caps for Gibraltar, has been sentenced to 11 years and three months in prison by Kingston-Upon-Hull Crown Court.
The 34-year-old was found guilty of orchestrating a significant drug supply operation aimed at south London gangs, involving substantial quantities of cocaine, ketamine, and cannabis valued at approximately £3 million.
Pusey’s illegal activities came to light after investigators intercepted communications on the Encrochat messaging network, where he operated under the alias ‘IrregularFog’ in June 2020. Detectives linked Pusey to the drug conspiracy through passwords that matched details of his family members.
Last summer, Pusey pleaded guilty to charges including conspiracy to supply cocaine, ketamine, and cannabis following his arrest on June 23, 2023.
Detective Constable Duncan Askew from the Metropolitan Police’s Specialist Crime team highlighted Pusey’s dual life, portraying him as a respected football figure while simultaneously conducting large-scale drug deals. Askew condemned Pusey’s actions, underscoring the severe impact of drug trafficking on London communities, including its association with violence.
Operation Eternal, spanning three years, has been pivotal in dismantling criminal networks and curbing the influx of drugs and firearms onto city streets. The Metropolitan Police reaffirmed their commitment to pursue individuals involved in drug-related crimes and ensure they face justice in court.
Pusey’s sentencing marks a significant milestone in law enforcement’s efforts to combat drug-related offences and uphold public safety across London.
