LONDON – Police have launched an investigation following the release of video footage showing a female prison guard engaging in an illicit act with an inmate at HMP Wandsworth.

The video further shows the officer having an illicit with the prisoner while his cellmate records the scene on a mobile phone.

The video has been widely shared on social media.

Background details include a TV and clothes heaped on a bunk bed. The prisoner filming the incident can be heard saying, “Guys, we’ve made history; this is what I’m telling you.”

At one point, someone attempts to enter the cell, but the filmer responds, “Give me a minute, one second.”

The inmate then encourages his friend to continue, panning the camera to his face and stating, “This is how we roll in Wandsworth.” He adds, “You know you’re gangster, innit!”

While the exact timing of the incident is unclear, it is believed to have occurred recently. The woman in the video no longer works at the prison.

A spokesperson for the HMP Prison Service commented, “Staff corruption is not tolerated, and the former prison officer allegedly featured in this video has been reported to the police. It would be inappropriate to comment further while they investigate.”

The Metropolitan Police confirmed they are aware of the video and have begun an investigation. “At this early stage, there have been no arrests. We are in close contact with the Ministry of Justice,” a Met Police spokesperson said.

Former prison governor Ian Acheson expressed serious concerns about the security implications of the footage.

He told MailOnline, “If this footage is authentic, and I’ve been assured it is, the problems confronting a likely new Labour administration go far beyond overcrowding.

The idea that recruits to a national law enforcement agency would even contemplate, let alone participate in; illicit acts is a stunning indictment of the chaos inside this prison. It won’t be an isolated incident.”

Acheson added, “The state is no longer in charge here. The security implications and corruption threat are apparent. The widespread infiltration of illicit mobile phones means many prisoners will see this footage.

How are decent female officers supposed to feel safe doing their jobs in an environment where colleagues willingly participate in their se**ual humiliation and exploitation?”

Official statistics reveal that more than 80 prison staff have been sacked or reprimanded since 2013 for having affairs with inmates.
