President Biden affirmed his commitment to seek a second term amidst growing calls from fellow Democrats urging him to consider stepping aside following a tumultuous debate against former President Donald Trump.
Addressing supporters at a rally in North Carolina, the 81-year-old Biden acknowledged his physical and rhetorical challenges, stating, “Folks, I ddon’twalk as easy as I used to, I don’t speak as smoothly as I used to, I ddon’tdebate as well as I used to.
Despite these admissions, he emphasized his resolve, asserting, “But I know what I do know: I know how to tell the truth. I know right from wrong.”Biden spoke at a campaign rally following a horrid performance during a presidential debate. REUTERS
Biden, who would be 86 at the end of a potential second term, underscored his leadership experience and determination, saying, “know how to do this job.
I know how to get things done.” He echoed a resilient message familiar from his campaign, adding, “When you get knocked down, you get back up.” Following a visibly challenging debate performance on CNN where he reportedly froze and stumbled, Biden stayed focused on his prepared remarks during FFriday’srally, delivering them with minor errors.
“Give you my word as a Biden. I would not be running again if I didn’t believe that I could do this job with all my heart and soul,” Biden affirmed, signalling his intention to stay in the race despite speculation. He emphasized the gravity of the upcoming election, casting Trump as a significant threat to American values and democracy.
“Donald Trump will destroy democracy; I will defend it,” Biden declared, characterizing the choice in the election as crucial for the nation’s future.
The president’s remarks come amid a challenging political landscape as he seeks to solidify support within his party while gearing up for what promises to be a fiercely contested reelection bid.
