Parliament has heard that the Russian security service, the FSB, has compromised the private phones of government employees and journalists to interfere with UK political processes.
Foreign Office Minister Leo Docherty told MPs today that high-profile politicians and civil servants had been the target of persistent attempts to interfere in UK political processes.
Speaking of Russian ‘attempted cyber interference’ and ‘malicious cyber activity,’ Mr Docherty stated, ‘I can confirm today that the Russian Federal Security Services, the FSB, is behind a sustained effort to interfere in our democratic processes.
‘They have targeted members of this House as well as the (House of Lords). They have targeted civil servants, journalists, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
‘They have been targeting high-profile individuals and entities with a clear intent – using information they obtain to meddle in British politics.’
The revelation comes as Russia’s House of Parliament voted to hold a presidential election on March 17, 2024.

It was passed unanimously by 162 votes, and the Federation Council’s head, Valentina Matviyenko, stated, ‘With this decision, we are effectively launching the start of the election campaign.’
Residents of Ukraine’s occupied Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhya, and Kherson will vote in this election.
‘By electing a head of state as a group, we fully share our fatherland’s common responsibility and destiny,’ says the president. Ms Matviyenko went on to say.
