Trump: ‘Sweating Like a Dog’ at 38°C Rally

Former US President Donald Trump faced criticism after holding an outdoor rally in scorching temperatures, where he downplayed safety concerns for supporters in attendance.

The event occurred in Las Vegas, Nevada, amidst a blistering heatwave, with temperatures reaching 37.8°C on Sunday.

Organizers of the campaign rally were forced to take urgent measures to mitigate the heat risks, including deploying additional medics, providing fans, and distributing bottled water.

Authorities had expressed concerns that the extreme heat could pose safety hazards for attendees.

Six individuals were hospitalized despite these precautions, and another 24 received on-site medical treatment, primarily for heat-related issues, according to the Clark County Fire Department.

During his speech, Trump complained about the heat, stating that nobody mentioned his discomfort while everyone, including the Secret Service, was focused on the crowd’s well-being.

He likened his sweating to a dog’s, remarking, “This is hard work.”

While acknowledging concerns about the heat, Trump joked about the importance of securing voters’ support, stating, “I don’t care about you.

I want your vote.” He later anticipated reporters would misconstrue his words, labelling them as “horrible” when taken out of context.

The 77-year-old attempted to downplay the severity of the heat, suggesting it was not as unbearable as anticipated. He redirected frustration towards malfunctioning speech teleprompters rather than the weather conditions.

Nevada holds significance as one of the pivotal “swing states” likely to influence the outcome of the November presidential election.

Recent surveys commissioned by Fox News indicated Trump held a 5% lead over Democratic nominee Joe Biden in Nevada.

Trump, the Republican Party’s presumptive nominee, emphasized his campaign’s outreach efforts, especially targeting the Latino community through the “Latino Americans for Trump Coalition.” Notably, four Hispanic immigrants served as warm-up speakers at the rally.

In a bid to appeal to service workers, a significant demographic in Las Vegas, Trump pledged to eliminate taxes on tips, highlighting his commitment to supporting those in the service industry.

He promised immediate action on this issue upon assuming office, recognizing the importance of their contributions.

As Trump continues his campaign efforts, his approach to addressing safety concerns and engaging with diverse communities remains scrutinised, mainly as the election draws nearer.
