Third-party presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has criticized the guilty verdict against former President Donald Trump, calling it “profoundly undemocratic.” Kennedy accused the Democratic Party of attempting to defeat Trump through legal battles instead of at the ballot box.
“The Democratic Party’s strategy is to beat President Trump in the courtroom rather than the ballot box. This will backfire in November. Even worse, it is profoundly undemocratic,” Kennedy said in a post on X.
Kennedy argued that America needs a president who can win elections without undermining the separation of powers or weaponizing the courts. “You can’t save democracy by destroying it first,” he added.
He further accused the Democrats of fearing a Trump victory in the upcoming election, leading them to pursue legal battles instead. “The Democrats are afraid they will lose in the voting booth, so instead they go after President Trump in the courtroom,” Kennedy said.
Shifting his focus to his own campaign, Kennedy emphasized that he is running against Trump based on policy differences, not legal issues. “I’m also running against President Trump in this election. The difference is I’m challenging him on his record,” Kennedy said. He criticized Trump’s handling of COVID-19 lockdowns, environmental policies, corporate ties, support for military actions, and failure to address corruption and waste in Washington.
Kennedy argued that while he is willing to challenge Trump on these issues, the Democrats are not because they pursue similar policies. “I’ll challenge him on these things, but the Democrats won’t. You know why? Because they pursue the very same policies,” he said.
Kennedy initially launched his presidential bid as a Democrat but switched to running as an independent candidate after polling showed him trailing President Biden.
