Nicki Minaj was reportedly arrested in Amsterdam on Saturday for allegedly carrying drugs, despite the “Super Bass” singer’s insistence that she had no contraband. The incident, captured on Instagram Live, showed Minaj interacting with law enforcement.
One official in the video stated that they wanted to take the “Bang Bang” rapper into custody for “carrying drugs.” Minaj, 41, responded, “I’m not going in there. I need a lawyer present.” The officer mentioned her concert scheduled for Saturday night in Manchester, England, assuring her they would “try to get [her] there” as soon as possible.
In a subsequent video, Minaj appears inside a vehicle, conversing with a uniformed officer about plans to search all her bags. “Why didn’t you guys search it before they went on the plane?” she questions. The officer explained that the previous officer did not believe she was not carrying drugs and was unhappy she had filmed him.
It remains unclear if Minaj, currently on her Pink Friday 2 World Tour, was officially booked at a police station around 10:30 a.m. ET, Minaj tweeted, “Now they said they found weed & that another group of people have to come here to weigh the pre-rolls. Keep in mind they took my bags without my consent.
My security has already advised them that those pre-rolls belong to him. Oh yeah, and the pilot wants me to take my IG post down.” She added that her plane was delayed by at least two hours.
Shortly before 11 a.m. ET, Minaj, updated that the police asked her to make a statement at a police precinct. Meanwhile, her fans rallied on social media with the hashtag “#FREENICKI.”
Graphic designer Nicholas Davison tweeted, “The craziest news to wake up to. Amsterdam, get it together & fast! This arrest was so uncalled for.”
