A two-storey restaurant building collapsed on the beach in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, resulting in at least four fatalities and 16 injuries, according to the country’s national police.

Emergency services reported that seven individuals were “very seriously” injured, while nine others sustained serious injuries. All injured parties have been transported to various hospitals in Palma.


Rescue operations were still ongoing, with emergency crews finalizing search and rescue efforts and securing the area. A local police spokesperson emphasized the need for silence to detect any remaining trapped individuals.
“The terrace has come down, probably due to excessive weight,” the spokesperson noted, adding that the exact causes are under investigation.
The first emergency calls were received around 8 p.m. Firefighters, police, and emergency services quickly responded, with some psychologists also called to the scene to assist.

Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez expressed his condolences and support on the X social media platform. “I am closely following the consequences of the terrible collapse that occurred on the beach of Palma,” he stated. Sanchez also confirmed communication with local and regional authorities, assuring that the government is prepared to provide necessary assistance.

A spokesperson from the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs acknowledged awareness of the incident and readiness to provide consular assistance.8

Spanish state-owned broadcaster TVE aired footage of firefighters clearing the Medusa Beach Club area and ambulances at the scene around 11:30 p.m. local time.
