A passenger on an Aer Lingus flight was detained in custody with permission to post bail for allegedly displaying an “extremely threatening” demeanour on a flight from France to Dublin last night.
Darren Davison, a 59-year-old individual from Ivy Bank Park, Donaghmore, Dungannon, in Co Tyrone, was apprehended upon his arrival at Dublin Airport and charged under the Air Navigation and Transport Act.
Today, he appeared before Dublin District Court, facing accusations of being intoxicated and engaging in threatening and abusive behaviour during the flight.
According to Sergeant Derek Spain, the investigating officer had limited success obtaining any information from Mr Davison besides his name and identity.
Initially, Mr Davison stated that he would represent himself in court but later agreed to have a solicitor provided by the court.
Although the Gardaí objected to granting bail, Judge Michael Ramsey allowed Mr Davison to be released on his € 200 bond.
His solicitor, Daniel Hanahoe, mentioned that Mr Davison had €40 in his possession and would regularly report to a Garda station in Co Monaghan, which is approximately 40 minutes away from his residence in Northern Ireland.
Judge Ramsey ordered Mr Davison to remain in custody until the bail money was lodged. He is scheduled to appear again at Cloverhill District Court tomorrow.
