Hamas and Islamic Jihad, two groups in Gaza, turned down a peace proposal led by Egypt, aiming to end the conflict with Israel.
The plan called for the militants to give up control in exchange for peace, including forming a Palestinian parliament and holding elections. Instead, they insisted on discussing a prisoner swap, linking it to Israel withdrawing from Gaza.

The Egyptian plan outlines three phases: a two-week truce and a partial hostage-prisoner exchange. The second phase involves a new Gaza government, and the final step aims for lasting peace and the release of all hostages. Despite the apparent discord, a Hamas official maintained that talks are ongoing.

Israel seems poised to reject the proposal, as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu emphasized that the war would only end with the destruction of the terror group. This stance drew criticism during a parliamentary speech, with families of hostages expressing urgency.

Netanyahu faces scrutiny for alleged security lapses in the Oct. 7 assault. An IDF officer raised concerns about approving a festival near Gaza, yet the event proceeded.
The IDF is investigating shortcomings, while Netanyahu claimed the Red Cross denied delivering crucial medicine to Gaza’s hostages. The Red Cross refutes this, citing challenges in reaching the region due to ongoing conflicts. Nonprofits argue that Israel’s bombings hinder aid delivery to Gaza.
