Hawaii Influencer Theresa Cachuela Killed in Murder-Suicide in Front of Daughter
Theresa Cachuela, a 33-year-old social media influencer and owner of House of Glam Hawaii LLC, was shot and killed by her estranged husband, Jason Cachuela, in the parking lot of the Pearlridge Center in Honolulu on Friday morning. Her 6- or 8-year-old daughter witnessed the shooting and told the police that her father pulled the trigger.
Jason reportedly shot himself shortly after fleeing the scene in a grey Mazda. The police are investigating the deaths as a murder-suicide, which occurred two weeks after a judge granted Cachuela’s petition for an order of protection against her estranged husband.
According to the petition for the temporary restraining order (TRO), Cachuela threatened to kill himself in front of her and held a knife to his neck, traumatizing her and scaring her. The following day, he showed up at her house early in the morning to apologize but kept threatening to kill himself again.
Cachuela filed the TRO due to her husband’s continued harassment and stalking. She had told relatives that she had been abused by her husband and wanted to leave him, but he wasn’t accepting it. He tried to control her with everything: where she would go, what she would do. She had recently filed for divorce.
Jason repeatedly threatened to commit suicide in the days before the killing. He was only permitted to contact Cachuela for child custody, and they had been married for ten years. Jason’s attorney said the couple had agreed to visitation of the children. He told the media that the TRO was sought to help keep Cachuela from killing himself and that he had arranged for a psychological evaluation before the couple agreed on the terms of the TRO. He also said that his client has never threatened violence against Cachuela and their children.
When the police served Jason with the TRO, they recovered his five registered firearms. Cachuela’s mother, Lucita Ani-Nihoa, told Hawaii News Now that her daughter had been trying to talk to the police about all the issues that were going on about the gun that he pulled on her a couple of times already. He threatened to kill her and the kids in her garage.
The court wasn’t there for her, and the system failed her. Cachuela’s cousin, Terrell Scott, said he wants the community to remember her as a dedicated mom and business owner who did everything she could to protect her kids.
