The Iranian leader has issued a threat to close the Mediterranean Sea in response to the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip. According to M10News
Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Naqdi from the Iranian Revolutionary Guards warned of the potential closure of the Mediterranean Sea, the Strait of Gibraltar, and other waterways as retaliation for perceived support by the United States and its allies for actions in the Gaza Strip.
Israel War Update
Israel has been involved in a retaliatory war in Gaza following a terror attack by Hamas on October 7. The conflict has escalated with airstrikes from Israel and rocket launches from Hamas, resulting in casualties and significant infrastructure damage in Gaza.
Iran has supported Hamas, as well as Lebanon’s Hezbollah and Yemen’s Houthi rebels. Iran’s involvement in Houthi attacks in the Red Sea prompted Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin to announce a partnership to address these assaults.
The White House confirmed Iran’s significant role in planning Houthi attacks, but Naqdi remains steadfast in emphasizing the birth of new resistance powers and the closure of other waterways. While the specific method for closing the vast Mediterranean Sea is unclear, it could have substantial economic consequences, given its role as a crucial trade route connecting Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.
