A 90-year-old British woman and her 63-year-old son have been discovered dead in their home in Alhaurín el Grande, Spain, located 30 minutes from Costa del Sol’s Fuengirola.
Authorities were alerted after local social services raised concerns and requested a welfare check. When police officers forced entry, they found that the elderly woman had likely starved to death, while her son had died of natural causes.
The Spanish Civil Guard confirmed that both deaths were due to natural causes and stated there were no suspicious circumstances.
The son, who was a registered carer, had been taking care of his mother, though it remains unclear if he had any underlying health conditions.
This tragedy follows the recent discovery of two other British pensioners, aged 82 and 74, dead in their Costa Blanca home in San Fulgencio.
Firefighters found their bodies last Thursday after a social services welfare check. Both were reported to have had chronic illnesses and were considered vulnerable individuals.
A post-mortem confirmed that they also died of natural causes, with no signs of violence at the scene.
