In a heartbreaking incident, a 20-year-old woman lost her life just after undergoing weight-loss surgery in Turkey. Morgan Ribeiro, who had endured years of weight-related bullying, shared a haunting TikTok post just days before her surgery, stating, ‘My last post before weight loss surgery – see you on the other side!’

Morgan, accompanied by her 19-year-old boyfriend James Brewster, traveled to Turkey earlier this month for a £2,500 gastric sleeve surgery, seeking to avoid lengthy NHS waiting lists. Despite receiving post-surgery clearance on January 5, tragedy struck on the flight back home. Morgan fell seriously ill, entering septic shock. An emergency landing in Serbia uncovered a severed small intestine, leading to a fatal infection that claimed her life.

Morgan’s grieving mother, Erin Gibson, aged 44, is now raising £10,000 to repatriate her daughter’s body. In a poignant message to others, Ms. Gibson shared Morgan’s lifelong struggle with weight and the challenges she faced. Expressing concerns about the surgery’s location, she emphasized the need to prevent such tragedies, stating,

‘I had that sinking feeling because I’d heard horror stories about Turkey. I never ever want this to happen to another daughter. I don’t want her life to be in vain.’

According to James, Morgan’s boyfriend, they were not given enough information regarding the risks involved with the surgery. A government representative expressed sympathy and said, “We are assisting the family of a British woman who died in Belgrade and are in communication with the local authorities.
