11-Year-Old Girl Loses Entire Family in Fatal West Yorkshire Crash

 A devastating collision on Sunday afternoon in the village of Newmillerdam has resulted in the deaths of six people, including two young girls.

Police have identified the victims as Shannen Morgan, 30, Shane Roller, 33, and their daughters Lillie, 4, and Rubie, 9. Also killed in the accident were two individuals on a motorcycle. The eldest daughter of the family, 11-year-old Poppie, survived the crash and has been left orphaned and bereft of her siblings.

The incident, described by authorities as an “absolutely tragic event,” occurred on the A61 between Wakefield and Barnsley. Witnesses reported that a Ford Focus burst into flames after hitting the motorbike in the collision. The aftermath showed a burnt-out car and debris scattered across the roadway.

In a statement, Superintendent Alan Travis of Wakefield District Police expressed profound sorrow: “This is a tragic incident which has resulted in the loss of six lives. Our thoughts go out to the families of those who have died, and we are working to provide support at this difficult time.”

Emergency services responded swiftly, but all six victims were pronounced dead at the scene. The A61 was closed between Shaw Lane and Warren Lane as police conducted their investigation and sought witnesses.

A local GoFundMe campaign for Poppie, who was not in the car, has raised over £41,000 as of Monday afternoon. The fundraiser’s message reads: “We are reaching out to you with heavy hearts and a plea for help. On July 21, 2024, a tragic car accident took the lives of the entire family – her loving mum, dad, and two little sisters. At just 11 years old, Poppie instantly lost her whole world.”

Tributes have poured in from across the community and beyond. Security Minister Dan Jarvis, MP for Barnsley North, took to social media to express his condolences: “Devastating news. My heartfelt condolences go to the family and friends of those who have tragically lost their lives.”

Police are urging anyone with dash-cam footage or information about the incident to come forward as they continue their investigation.
